What this consultation is about

Like most local authorities, Cheshire East Council has had significant budget deficits to tackle over the medium term. The budget-setting meeting of council took place against a challenging national context of an overall public sector deficit (which is being partly met by big reductions in government grants to councils) and rising demand for both adult social care and children in care. For Cheshire East, this means expected reductions of central government grants, inflationary costs and rising demand totalling more than £70 million over the next three years. The 2018/19 budget is balanced, but with the scale of potential changes in funding all services need to address this issue.

The current demand for new and replacement wheeled bins is costing us over £300,000 a year plus £60,000 delivery costs. We are therefore proposing to implement a bin supply charge for this service. The charge will not apply where it can be shown that our refuse collectors caused the damage.
